IVLP visitors with Mid-America Arts Alliance staff, during a tour of the M-AAA space.
In Mid-July, Global Ties KC had the pleasure of welcoming an inspiring group of international visitors from Côte d’Ivoire, with a shared focus on Creative Industries and Tourism! Their time in Kansas City was filled with meaningful conversations with local resources, cultural exchange through art, and opportunities for connection beyond their visit.
Throughout their time in KC, the group visited a number of valued partners across our city, including the Charlotte Street Foundation, Mutual Musicians Foundation, Vine Street Studio KC, American Jazz Museum, Mid-America Arts Alliance, and Art As Mentorship. Each stop highlighted the deep artistic roots and creative communities that make Kansas City a unique destination for out of town visitors.
A true highlight of the evening was the visitors getting the opportunity to connect with local artists at Charlotte Street Foundation for an opening evening reception. The evening brought together local artists, art enthusiasts, and the visiting delegation for a vibrant cultural exchange. Visitors had the opportunity to connect one-on-one with local artists, get a tour of the venue which included meeting with artists in their own studios, and learn about the ongoing artistic work in the community.

The visitors also attended a panel discussion featuring leaders from ArtsKC – Regional Arts Council, Visit KC, and the KC Film Office (City of Kansas City, MO), to learn how Kansas City promotes creative industries. One of the highlights of the week was a case study on the historic 18th & Vine District, led by Creative City KC and Jake Wagner, showcasing the area’s cultural heritage and ongoing revitalization. In addition, the group enjoyed an evening of home hospitality, where they were graciously welcomed into the homes of local families for heartfelt conversations and cultural exchange.
At every meeting, these 10 leaders from Côte d’Ivoire participated in thoughtful dialogue, exploring future opportunities for collaboration with our local arts and tourism networks.
We’re incredibly grateful for our strong community of partners who help make programs like this possible. International exchanges such as this are never just a one-time experience. Instead, they serve as the first step in building lasting relationships that transcend borders and create global impact for years to come.
